Horsetail Falls From Southside Dr.
For a brief time in February, if the winter was wet and the skies are clear, an unusual phenomenon occurs as the sun sets on the west side of El Capitan. The Horsetail Falls, which is a small often missed waterfall, lights up like lava as the sunset hits the rocks at just the right angle. After 4 years of drought, in 2016, I was honored to see this event twice within the week. This shot was taken from the south side of the Merced River on the Yosemite Valley. Even though there are hundreds of photographers and others have a similar shot, it was worth the trip!
